
$290,000 to help the Ballarat community live more sustainably!
The Brumby Labor Government is providing BREAZE (Ballarat Renewable Energy And Zero Emissions) $290,000 to establish an EcoLiving Ballarat Learning Network that will help the community learn how to live sustainably. (* Update Novemebr 2010 * our Smart Living Centre)
Visiting Ballarat on Friday April 19, Environment and Climate Change Minister Gavin Jennings announced the project that will provide information, training programs, demonstrations and displays on sustainable living.
“The centre will provide practical information and advice on how we can make our homes and workplaces greener so we can collectively take action on climate change. There will be demonstrations on sustainable technologies including solar panels and solar hot water as well as training and information on subjects such as how to complete sustainable renovations.”
Member for Ballarat East Geoff Howard MP said the Ballarat community were proud to be on the cutting edge of the fight against climate change.
“In Ballarat, the winning tender by BREAZE will see an EcoLiving Centre shop front created in the heart of the Ballarat CBD, providing a one stop sustainability shop for the local community,” Mr Howard said.
BREAZE Executive Officer Lisa Kendal said Ballarat’s EcoLiving Centre will build on and extend existing programs, and will focus around 5 key themes: • Sustainable homes
• Sustainable transport • Water security and conservation
• Food sustainability • Biodiversity
The project, auspiced by BREAZE, is an initiative of the newly formed RSA Ballarat (Regional Sustainability Alliance Ballarat), an alliance between the City of Ballarat, University of Ballarat, Central Highlands Regional Library Corporation, Regional Development Australia, Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Central Highlands Water, Corangamite Catchment Authority, Delacombe Neighbourhood Renewal Centre, Leigh Catchment Group, Friends of Royal Park, Ballarat Environment Network, Central Highlands Primary Care Partnership, BRACE, BREAZE, Department of Primary Industries, Central Highlands Agribusiness Forum, Department of Sustainability and Environment, Commerce Ballarat and the Committee for Ballarat.
Ballarat’s EcoLiving Centre will be located in Lydiard Street, in a retro-fitted shop front at the entrance to the historical Mining Exchange building. Network outlets will also be located at Royal Park Buninyong, Delacombe Neighbourhood Renewal and Wendouree Community Park.
