Community Power Hub Gathering

Delegates Come from Across Victoria to Participate in Community Power Hub Gathering

Dragon NRG Heater BREAZE and the Regional Sustainability Alliance Ballarat (RSAB) hosted two important events last month (21 to 22 March 2018) attracting interest from La Trobe Valley, Melbourne, Bendigo and Ballarat.

The Community Power Hub (CHP) Pilot Program funded by the Victorian Government has not for profit organisations operating the program in Bendigo, La Trobe Valley and Bendigo. The CPH team members and their support staff from Sustainability Victoria and Depart

ment of Environment, Land Water and Planning (DELWP) met with delegates of the RSAB to hear from Andrew Lang (World Bioenergy Congress) about bioenergy projects suitable for regional Victoria that Andrew had visited in Europe and New Zealand and from Keith Jackson from Grampians Central West Waste and Resource Recovery Group about current issues, strategies and projects relating to waste management across the region.

Our visiting delegates shared dinner at the Mid City Hotel before an early morning tour of the Meredith Dairy’s renewable energy installations.

The delegates were accompanied by Shaun Quayle from Dragon NRG who supplied the 250 kW automated woodchip boiler. We took precautions of wearing dust particle masks against the risk of visitors contracting Q-Fever due to an outbreak on the property 4 years ago.

The dairy plant has a 99kW PV array and 750 evacuated tubes for solar hot water heating. The additional electricity consumed is imported via the grid utilising Pacific Hydro Green Electricity.

The delegates returned to the Mid City Hotel for the balance of the day to share information on resources available to community renewable energy projects including financing, legal agreements, electricity metering and billing services and technical assistance with infrastructure selection.
