President's Message May 2018

Ian RossiterOn Monday 21st May we held a Special General Meeting for BREAZE members at the Ballarat Central Library to consider changes to the membership fee structure. This was considered necessary due to the large number of categories for membership and their costs making the renewal process complex, particularly via the web. I am pleased to announce that the following motion was carried unanimously:

That BREAZE adopts two membership types:
• Single Membership – cost $20 annually (includes 1 Adult and 2 children)
• Family Membership – cost $40 annually (includes 2 Adults and 4 children)

All memberships will be due on the anniversary of membership.
All life members will continue to be life members.
All current financial members will keep their current anniversary dates.
Businesses and organisations may buy multiple single memberships. Each membership will be allocated to a nominated party. For BREAZE nominated events, upon request prior to the event, BREAZE will allow the transfer of memberships for the purpose of priority or discounts.

I trust that existing and new members will consider the new fee structure affordable and simple to understand. The intent of the Board is to introduce events this year that attract admission fees to the general public and that are free to financial members. This should address the question sometimes asked “What do I get for my membership from BREAZE?” Members will get monthly eNews bulletins, have access to a new members only facebook page and get priority access to workshops and activities run by BREAZE.

This Month the Board committed to support the Say No to Adani letter writing campaign which is featured in a separate article. I encourage members to participate in the campaign which aims to get the federal opposition to form a policy of not supporting the proposed Adani Carmichael Coal Mine (and other new coal mines).

I encourage members to join us for 3 important BREAZE events on World Environment Day 5th June. The World Environment Day Children’s Writing Competition winners will be presented with prizes at the Ballarat Library (Children’s Corner) from 4pm. BREAZE members are encouraged to get together at Mitchell Harris Wines (Doveton Street) from 6pm to 7pm followed by our film night commencing 7.30pm at the Regent Cinemas with screenings of “Living the Change” and “Baykeepers”.
