A community battery for Ballan? Webinar video now available

Ballan Battery 9

Moorabool Environment Group in collaboration with the Grampians Community Power Hub held a community webinar on Tuesday 11 January at 7:00 PM to discuss the possibilities and benefits of a community battery. If you live in Ballan please complete our online survey - it only takes 2 minutes.

In early 2021 the Victorian State Government launched its Neighbourhood Battery Initiative (NBI) seeking applications from communities interested in taking part in what is effectively a pilot program to ascertain how community batteries might best serve communities. Issues to work through include governance, ownership and regulatory matters involving both government and networks.

To find out more about the Neighbourhood Battery Initiative download the discussion paper which was published online back in January. PLEASE NOTE: applications for the Program have now closed. We include this link for the information in the discussion paper alone. Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance (CVGA) was among the successful recipients and is undertaking a pilot feasibility study in Hepburn Shire, Community Sparks, which will assess the feasibility of five community battery sites in the Hepburn Shire, work on a decision-making tool for regional communities and will also explore a single potential battery site for six other local governments in the region.

Grampians Community Power Hub (G-CPH) is delighted to have Hepburn Wind as its Hepburn Branch partner. Every community initiative like this helps towards achieving Victoria's emissions reductions target of 45-50% by 2030.
