BREAZE Advocacy

motion to ballarat council 2017 05Over recent weeks BREAZE has been active in its advocacy for 100% Renewable Energy.

In response to the City of Ballarat Draft Council Plan 2017-2021, the Board made a written submission requesting that Council include in its plan, actions and targets for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. The Council has since issued amendments to the Draft Plan with corresponding references.

In support of Cr. Belinda Coates' Notice of Motion to the Ballarat City Council, of a strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2025, our Treasurer Peter Reid made a verbal submission to the Council Meeting of 26th April together with submissions by Regional Sustainability Alliance Ballarat, Ballarat Climate Action Group, and 6 other submitters. Council resolved to:

  1. Develop a strategy and implementation action plan for the City of Ballarat to achieve carbon neutrality by 2025;
  2. Develop a renewable energy action plan for the City of Ballarat to move towards 100% renewables as sources of energy by 2025;
  3. Work with the community, business and not-for-profit sectors to reduce community emissions and move towards renewables; and
  4. Commence the development of these strategies and plans as soon as possible.

We congratulate Cr Coates for bringing the motion, to those who made presentations to the meeting, and the Councillors for supporting the direction for the organisation.
