ican presentationThursday 6th February from 6:30-8:30,  Ballarat Trades Hall

This event will feature the Australian Co-Chair of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, Dr Margaret Beavis. ICAN was awarded the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize for its role in achieving the historic UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

2020 marks the 75th anniversaries of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Three-quarters of a century after the nuclear age began, our one precious world remains threatened by close to 14,000 nuclear weapons, held by 9 nations. While nuclear-armed leaders exchange war threats, at the same time a quieter movement is underway to build a world free of these abhorrent bombs.

Come along to hear about this inspiring movement, view the Nobel Peace Prize medal and discuss the role Ballarat can play in creating a world without nuclear weapons.
