This is the 7th year of BREAZE attending this event, and along with Sustainable Building, Designing and Smart Living advice, transport, this year the push for sustainability is "dare to change"!

Do you have, or know of a sustainable business, trade or product that is helping change the way we live and build, or fighting the War on Waste? There is still time to register for a site at the Expo!

at Royal Park  (cnr Hedrick and Warrenheip Streets) Buninyong

Our experts this year include:

  • Peter Reid - Electric Cars
  • Matt Turner - Sustainable Building Design
  • Michele Harvie - Renovating using recycled and sustainable materials
  • John Morgan - Zero Emissions Building Design

BREAZE members will also be around all day to help answer questions.   

Simon Reid will be representing BREAZE Energy Solutions to help you with questions regarding Solar Power, Solar Hot Water, Heat Pump Hot Water and Wood-Fired Hot Water.

Interests: Peter is an engineer who has worked on smart metering since the 1990’s. He was involved in the roll out of smart meters in Victoria in 2009 and 2010.
Topic: Electric Cars – a way to reduce blackouts
Peter will discuss a number of topics including how electric cars can reduce blackouts, range anxiety, principles of electric car design and the use of car batteries as grid storage

Interests: 13 years experience designing thermally and energy efficient homes throughout the cool-temperate climate of Central Victoria.
Topic: General Sustainable Building Design, residential and commercial

Book-keeper and Environmentalist
Interests: Dealing with Climate Change and Sustainable Living
Topic: Renovating using recycled and sustainable materials

Michele has spent the past four years renovating her family home at LaL Lal. Much of the time was spent investigating and resourcing suitable materials in the Ballarat area . This includes structural materials timber, new & recycled, windows, insulation, floorboards, environmentally friendly floor polishing, LED lighting, wet-back gravity feed hot water & 100% Self-sufficient rain water system.  The house was renovated as an Owner Builder, it has all its certifications including an Occupancy Certificate, with the major work carried out by hiring a her builder at an hourly rate and Michele Project Managing and working as the ‘laborer’ (along with at times the rest of the family).

Retired teacher. Advanced certificate in Renewable Energy Technology. Lectured at NMIT on renewable energy specialising in micro hydro and hybrid power systems.
Interests: Designed , built and lived in in four different houses
Topic : Zero Emissions Building Design

  • 1976 - an extensive renovation to an old timber house such that it used negligible energy from the grid (and gas was not used).
    This house was destroyed by fire in 1981.
  • 1982 - a new house was designed and built with even more low energy features.
  • 1992 - a reverse brick veneer house was developed in the bush near Daylesford. It was a zero emissions house powered by solar and
    hydro. In 1998, this property was the site of the first Sustainable Living Festival.
  • 2008 - I now live in another reverse brick veneer, zero emissions house at Lexton.

This year the expo has a focus on electric vehicles and hybrids, with owners displaying their modified cars, and brand name cars, bikes and motorcycles.  BREAZE memebrs are among them!
See the Buninyong Village Market, food stalls so you can come for lunch, free fun actitivties for the kids, as well as all the usual sustainability products, building and design advice, local groups, local plants, local landcare.... it goes on and on!

BREAZE will be at the Expo in 2017, running our "Ask an Expert" sessions, and BREAZE Energy Solutions will be there to answer all your questions about solar power and energy efficiency.

The Expo is about sustainable Building, and sustainable Living, with a focus on Electric Vehicles (EV) - it is part of the Australia wide Sustainable Living Festival that runs in February each year.

2016 SBAL family inside the hallIt is going to be BIG this year - with the extra cars and bikes, and the Buninyong Village Market joining us.

So if you are building or renovating, interested in finding our more about EVs, or just want a better life, get this date in your diary and we'll see you there!
There will be all sorts of professionals and producers to talk to about:

  • Electric Cars and bikes,
  • passive solar design, architects and designers,
  • solar electricity and solar hot water,
  • building materials,
  • renovating with secondhand materials,
  • bushfire ratings,
  • Landcare,
  • Permaculture,
  • and lots of food stalls, wonderful music, and interesting products that let you live gently on the Earth.
