Presentation Title: Indigenous Plants for Ballarat Gardens
Synopsis: The forests, grasslands and wetlands around Ballarat are home to many beautiful and important indigenous plants. Locally native plants can be a real asset to your garden, providing colour, movement and texture, supporting populations of native butterflies, birds and other wildlife and requiring minimal maintenance once established. This talk will address why you should consider growing some of them in your garden.

Gardens and Nursery Tour:

Join us after the talk for an optional visit to the new indigenous garden bed at Ballarat Botanical Gardens, see mature plants at North Gardens Wetland and visit the City of Ballarat Indigenous Plant Nursery where these plants all begin their life. We will car pool from the library.

Presenter: Stephanie Davison

Stephanie works in Science Outreach in the Faculty of Science and Technology at Federation University, is a volunteer at the CoB Indigenous Plant Nursery and an active member of the Wattle Flat Pootilla Landcare Group.

Sustainability workshops at the Central Library

Smart Living Ballarat with Ballarat City Council and BREAZE Inc. offer a series of monthly 1 hour workshops on practical sustainable solutions in the home and community. There is a different theme each month and the format involves both a presentation by a relevant guest expert and an open group discussion.

The workshop takes place at the Ballarat Central Library in Doveton Street and is free to attend. It will always be on the 3rd Wednesday of the month between 12.30 and 1.30pm.

You can also join our Smart Living Ballarat group for more regular updates on upcoming events, workshop related technical information and handouts, surveys etc.
