Ballarat Net Zero 2030

The City of Ballarat has developed a Plan for the community in consultation with the Regional Sustainability Alliance Ballarat (RSAB) of which BREAZE is a member. The Plan has an aspirational and ambitious target of net zero by 2030. BREAZE is now working with the community and the City of Ballarat to get everyone on board with achieving this target.

There are five priorities in the plan:

  • Net zero business

  • Net zero homes

  • Net zero new developments

  • Net zero transport

  • Net zero waste

Working in partnership with others on this plan is a key BREAZE priority.

What have we done so far?

Net Zero Businesses: BREAZE Inc. has a strong track record of securing funding and project managing the installation of solar panels on social housing and properties of not for profits across Ballarat and the wider region. Since 2021 the BREAZE Social Solar program has secured funding/project managed/assisted the installation of 1,240.44 kW of Solar PV plus 39.8kWh of behind the meter batteries. These initiatives reduce the carbon output of the participating organisations, and also, by reducing their power bills they free up valuable funds to provide more services or better facilities.

Net Zero Homes: In 2023 BREAZE Inc. partnered with Hepburn Energy in a Hot Water Heat Pump bulk buy bringing locals the opportunity to save on upgrading their old hot water systems. BEAZE also runs information sessions and workshops advising how to improve home energy efficiency, including Smart Living Ballarat workshops, Green Drinks talks. In 2023 BREAZE also ran a series of Home Energy Efficiency workshops funded by DEECA, in partnership with the Ballarat Zero Emissions Alliance (BZEA).

Net Zero New Developments: In 2022 - 2023, BREAZE’s Building Better Homes for the Future, a series of three forums w brought together builders, developers, planners and community members with guest speakers who presented on building more ecologically sustainable homes, building seven star homes and home electrification.

Net Zero Waste

BREAZE is proud to auspice two important local volunteer led organisations that support sustainably living through reduced consumption and waste in Ballarat: The Ballarat Tool Library and the Ballarat Repair Cafe.

In 2023 the Ballarat Zero Emissions Alliance (BZEA) was formed when BREAZE Inc invited other local sustainability groups – Ballarat Tool Library, Ballarat Repair Cafe, Ballarat Permaculture Guild, Hidden Orchard and Extinction Rebellion-Ballarat Chapter – to work with us on the BZE 2030 Plan. We invite other like minded groups to also come on board.

In 2024 we will continue to work with BZEA on the City Partnership Agreement establishing a BZE Awards Program and more series of Home Energy Efficiency Workshops through 2024 to 2027, to help locals make their homes more thermally efficient. Watch out for updates on these on the BREAZE Inc. Facebook page.
