Two Sustainability and Climate leaders from Ballarat, Colleen Fillipa (15 Trees & Earth Ed.) and Jessica Reeves (Federation Uni) have been chosen from hundreds of worldwide applicants, and will be joining a women-only expedition to Antarctica this December. This project is an extraordinary LEADERSHIP and strategic initiative. It aims to enhance the INFLUENCE and IMPACT of WOMEN in science to ensure the SUSTAINABILITY of our beautiful PLANET.
Upon return, we will be going out to community groups (such as schools, Rotary, universities and Science education centres) to talk about CLIMATE CHANGE and how we can all reduce our CARBON FOOTPRINT. We will also be encouraging young people (in particular girls) to consider science as a CAREER.
We could really do with your SUPPORT. The cost of the 20 day expedition to Antarctica is $20,000 each (~ $1,000/day on ship). We need to come up with this entire amount. Digging into savings, holding garage sales, selling calenders at markets, picking up extra paid work, putting treasured (motorized) items up on Gumtree, holding a fund-raising trivia night and movie night we are still $6,000 short.
